This year you will have the opportunity to develop your own service learning opportunity that centers around environmental stewardship in the local community.
Some important dates to remember: February 12th (Tuesday)--Goals and Action Plan due (with annotated bibliography) May 16th (Thursday)--Last day to submit final Service Learning Project
Possible Opportunities to Consider:
1)Pheasant Branch Conservancy- plan your service learning project around four workdays.
2 Water Action Volunteers Stream Monitoring- assist with monthly monitoring of Pheasant Branch Creek. If you choose to do this you may want to find a few classmates to work as a group to accomplish this.
3)Growing Food and Sustainability- help manage and improve the school gardens, rain gardens, and prairies.
4)Prairie Enthusiasts-help maintain and restore prairies in Dane and Sauk counties
5)Middleton Sustainability Committee Attend meetings or become a member of the Sustainability Committee.
6) Ice Age Trail Alliance- Volunteer for this organization, based in Cross Plains.
7) Local Watershed Friends Groups - Look at this LIST of friends groups and get in touch/get involved! Some examples are Friends of Kettle Pond, Friends of Black Earth Creek and Friends of Stricker Pond.
8) Mark Strom Drains: Contact the Dane County UWEX office at 608-224-3700 for more information on volunteering to mark storm drains
